• Function

1. Fuel Level Sensing
Physical mechanism: Mounted inside the fuel tank, the sender contains a float attached to a variable resistor (usually a potentiometer). As the fuel level changes, the float rises or falls, moving a wiper along the resistor’s track.
Input parameter: The position of the float, which corresponds directly to the fuel level (full, half, empty).
How it works: The changing resistance value is proportional to the fuel level—higher resistance for low fuel and lower resistance for full fuel. For example, a nearly empty tank might produce 100–200 ohms, while a full tank could be 20–50 ohms (values vary by model).

2. Electrical Signal Transmission
Connection: Typically connected to the fuel gauge or ECU via a two-wire circuit: one for the signal (variable resistance) and one for ground. In some systems, it may interface with a CAN bus for broader vehicle communication.
Signal type: Sends a DC voltage signal derived from the variable resistance. The ECU or gauge reads this voltage and converts it into a fuel level indication (e.g., a percentage or bar graph on the display).
Accuracy: To ensure stable readings, especially during movement or sloshing, the sender may include an anti-surge mechanism that dampens float movement, preventing false readings.
